Case study from Rajeswari

Rajeswari belongs to middle class family; she is studying in 8th standard in panchayat Union middle school in kannithamiznadu. Her parents are Sundaramoorthy and Rani. Due to her mother's behavior her father divorced her mother. Rajeswari was under the care of her mother and grandmother.

The quality of her will be like any other normal child. She use to get up early in the morning and she will help her mother. She will study and good marks, in her free time she uses to watch T.V. She will be kind towards the class mates. The main problem that Rajeswari faces is that in many situations she loses her temper, this is due to family background. In her early days their parents use to quarrel often, which affected rajeswari's temper. She often, goes away from emotional stability. As a result of this if anybody says that she doesn't know anything she reacts violently against them. She doesn't have good relationship with the family members, often she uses to have misunderstanding with them. She will not dress neatly. Sometime she use to talk wildly, and she will cry often thinking about her parents.

After seeing her pathetic condition, I was very much depresses to see her in the same situation, so I use to counsel her in my leisure time. I told her about the reality of the life that every body has to face in life. I asked her to be polite towards the family members and other elders and dress neatly. Thus after a couple of week later, their was a slight improvement in the way of dressing and her parents also appreciate her behavior after the life skill classes. In the school, teachers also gave satisfactory report on her performance. She had good conduct towards others. She had good conduct towards the classmates.

As narrated by the program team member

Case study from kalaiarasi

My name is T. kalaiarasi; I am 13 years old and studying in 8th standard. I am living in Sangolikuppam, which is Tsunami affected area. After Tsunami all most the children of our village are affected in their daily life (not respecting the elders and not obeying their words) Through life skill classes we learnt how to respect the elders and what are the goals in our life and our future plans also. My goal is to become a collector.

As to talk about my experiences of attending the life skill class offered by 'CCFID-Save the children' It has gained me more knowledge about child rights. I am very happy to know these rights and of my age children are protected from various types of problems. The children are not respected as such in community level. I think child line 1098 would be very helpful for children to create awareness and participation of the children has been increased. Life skill class has also given us courage to face our vulnerable situation. The stories and games conducted during the life skill class are a great entertainment and refreshment because through out the day we keep pestering our mind learning, learning'' the life skill class made us a good opportunity to participate and to show our talents which are expressed in the newsletter. We are very impressed in seeing our talents which are expressed in the newsletter with our name and school name published by CCFID and Save the Children.

My grandmother is also staying with us her name is Andal. My hobbies are stitching clothes, doing embroidery work, helping to my mother in house work and playing games.

I am immature to take decision of the problems created in the village level and not interested to participate in any programme. I knew little about awareness, some time I didn't mingle with my peers and I had very few friends. I belong to schedule caste is also the main reason to face many problems in the community base. I always want to be a first and best student in all the activities. But I couldn't reach it.

I am very much interested in my education and want to develop my personal skills. I want a support from others. I shared my experience to others rarely. I get fed up when my classmate mention my caste. I want to lead others and always in the first in education and also in school activities. I restrained myself from others because they teased me as dhobis daughter. After attending the Life skill programme I am very active and asked more questions in life skill modules. I cleared my doubts and got support for my personal matter (her family, peers and about education) I now know about equal rights, child rights and child protection. After life skill programme I freely move with others (peer) Now I had Goal setting for presently and in future, very clear about decision making. I had improved my participation skill. I didn't waste my time and spend the time very usefully in housework and in handicraft. I had known well how to face my problems and to solve it.

Life skill programme had changed more in my life. I am very confident of taking decision, now I have effective communication how to communicate with peer and face problems and also know how to set my goal for future. In my future I surely will become a Judge to solve the problems of my community and earn money to support my parents economically. Developing my skills and concentration on child rights and protection. I will encourage girl child for education and for equal right. Now I am developing participating right. Now I am very brave, I know about time management I learn handcraft work. During leisure hour I make handicraft work. Surely one day I live in this world in a high position. Feed back of SHG (Self Help Group)

Our SHG name is Ayyanar and Vallalar SHG in Adooragaram in kurinjipadi block. Our meeting will be held once every week and one day CCFID staff came to us and attended the meeting and gave orientation of the child rights and the life skill classes taken in the school for our children. We had no confidence first, because many NGO came but they didn't implement any programme. But later on we heard the life skill programme through our children that CCFID implements in the school, the children group formation and the child club activity. The staffs of CCFID and Save the Children described them that for kids 5 to 6 years of ABL cards, mats, mirrors for the students. About life skill classes and formation of children's group for VI, VII and VIII students. Children's were selected for the TOT training. A child from VII standard of his mother says now his son, he do his HW regularly. Before life skill class I used to shout him to do his Homework and he walk aside without any discipline or response but after the life skill class he realize his responsibility. The SHG members came and saw the sports material which provided for the children at the school which is useful for their children to competite with other school children's also. Later on we added demo on child rights and its major divisions
