Social mobilization and outreach

CCFID's starting directly working with youth after tsunami primarily with support from the International Youth Foundation. Our youth are part of a self help groups (SHGs), membership ranges from 15-20 individual members. Youth are trained in group management, book keeping and business promotion aspects. Exposure programs are arranged that provide them an understanding on job skills requirement in the market and their employability.

As on September 2007 total investment finance provided to the youth is to the tune of $197,581. The average loan size is Rs7,000 (USD 175) which is much higher to the Indian national average for micro enterprise promotion (USD 112). Our programme now reaches out to over 500 youth, who on an average are able to earn USD 70 per month. This is 31 % increase over what they were able to earn when the program started a year back.

Parthiban, 27 is the only earning member in the family of 6 members. Parthiban completed his eighth standard and was forced to take a job to earn for his family. He is the only son and only earning person in his family. Under critical circumstances he chose to become an auto driver. He managed to buy the auto and supported the family. In tsunami his auto was damaged and was repaired by availing loan from the Federation.

He says "I feel satisfied and confident. CCFID has given me hope to reach my Dreams, he says his dream is that he should own his auto without any credit and live peacefully"

Employability and BDS

To enhance the financial and non financial service access for youth, CCFID has set up a Livelihood Resource and Training Centre (LRC) that has started providing business counseling, livelihood finance, employability training and knowledge management services. Through LRC we have designed new loan products for enterprise finance, undertaken research to identify potential and viable self employment and employment opportunities and have launched training programs in lifeskills and employability skills.     Read More
